Since 1952, Compassion International has released children from poverty in Jesus' name. Today, Compassion is helping over 655,000 children. Currently in 23 countries, Compassion's sponsorship program connects one child to one sponsor, focusing on children's long-term needs. Sponsored children are nurtured through church partners or church-based projects in their communities and encouraged to develop spiritually, physically, economically and socially.

Stewardship is important to Compassion and less money and time spent managing outreach and communication efforts translates into more resources for the children. eMotion's Hosted Digital Asset Management (DAM) Solution allows Compassion to focus on what it does best: transforming children's lives.

Like many organizations with dispersed offices, Compassion lacked a simple and cost-effective way to manage a rich library of images and files used for communications and outreach efforts. With partner countries distributed around the world, Compassion needed a way to provide these groups access to its rich library of images. Simply placing the images in folders or posting them to the web was not giving users the flexibility they needed to search for content and was not improving the productivity of the creative services and communications groups.

SEARCHING FOR THE IMAGE THAT INSPIRES

Digital Asset Management enables Compassion to easily find images. Of course, images are only one part of what Compassion stores in its library. Content that supports a variety of print, web and interactive media and sponsor communications also fill its digital shelves. Thumbnail images, storyboards and ample descriptive data make browsing easy. The storyboard features allow users to preview every page of multi-page documents without opening the file, reducing the time needed to ensure that the right content has been found.

Users can find images even when they do not know the exact keywords. When users locate the image or file they need, eMotion enables them to transform that content into a file format that matches their needs.

EFFECTIVELY MANAGING PROJECTS, PEOPLE AND THE CREATIVE PROCESS

Compassion uses eMotion to receive copy and photographs from field staff and partner countries around the world. The project management features simplify the process of gathering and distributing media for outreach efforts. Also, by tracking the status, materials and related billing for each job, Compassion can easily measure and report on its efficiency through one single tool. Web-based access provides visibility to this information throughout the organization and enables individuals to take action to increase the quality and speed of projects.

Compassion's Communications and Education division receives hundreds of requests for images per year. By saving 15-30 minutes with every request, the division not only improves its efficiency but other members of the organization find what they want more quickly as well.

FASTER TURNAROUND AND LESS COST WITH VENDORS AND PARTNERS

Compassion wanted to simplify how it worked with printers and other vendors. Exchanging high-resolution images via e-mail, FTP or express delivery made their communications process cumbersome and expensive. Now, through eMotion, Compassion can either direct designers to access its Image Library over the Internet or e-mail a vendor a secure link where, in as little as two steps, vendors can access their job to download or upload files. Faster production and distribution times enable Compassion to complete projects more quickly and efficiently.

AN INVESTMENT THAT BENEFITS COMPASSION'S CHILDREN

From the beginning of its search for a cost-effective tool to manage its image library, Compassion sought a solution that would not disproportionately increase its administrative and IT costs. By maintaining a low-cost structure, Compassion can deliver more direct benefits to the children it seeks to help. The Hosted Digital Asset Management Solution provides Compassion with features found in more expensive, licensed software at a fraction of the cost. Compassion only pays for what it needs and subsequently scales its usage up or down, according to its business needs, at a predictable cost. Financial integrity has been a hallmark of Compassion International for over 50 years. By keeping its administration expenses below 8.5 percent of total expenses, Compassion maintains this tradition and can expand its reach. In 2003-2004, Compassion added over 138,000 new children into programs spread across 23 countries.
