Avid and eMotion collaboration Expands Digital Media Content Creation and Management Capability
(Business Wire)
Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 7th September 2000 At the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) 2000, Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID), announced today the capability for Avid's Symphony, Media Composer, and Xpress products to link with emotion's MediaQuest product, providing improved efficiencies for creating, reviewing or approving digital material. The solution allows edited video on a Media Composer to be merged into the MediaQuest digital media management system via a simple drag-and-drop functionality, right to a desktop. Using the Avid OMM (Open Media Management) format, the commercial interoperation of these products represents a huge leap forward from existing management solutions.
The linkage of emotion's enterprise asset management products with Avid's industry-leading nonlinear editing systems and Avid Unity MediaNet shared media network solution is tangible proof of Avid's commitment to the open nonlinear production environment, said Jim Frantzreb, product marketing manager for Avid Unity. This interoperation moves the collaborative media production and distribution environment to a new level of enterprise-wide availability and control.
The solution allows an Avid editor to drag and drop Avid sequences or elements to and from the MediaQuest media management system. Editors can then access their media from anywhere in the enterprise. Unlike other asset management solutions, MediaQuest preserves all of the Avid metadata files, thereby eliminating the need for reentering descriptive information. Once the asset is registered in MediaQuest, approved users can do a variety of things including, track assets and grant rights, search using emotion's patented multimedia natural language search engine, or collaborate interactively on development of the composition or elements.
This cooperative effort leverages the strengths of Avids editing and networked storage systems, and emotion's MediaQuest asset management system to give the entire enterprise access to digital media, said Bob Griffin, CEO of emotion Now content that was once only visible to an Avid editor can be searched, browsed and collaborated regardless of their location.
MediaQuest is priced between $75,000 to $100,000 depending on system configuration. The Avid MediaQuest Interface server is priced separately, and pricing has not been finalized for the additional interface module. The complete product will ship in late September 2000.
