NYNMA Moderates Breakfast Seminar on the Internet’s Effect on Advertising and Media sponsored by eMotion

Experts will discuss the importance of digital media and what the future holds for the industry

New York, May 31, 2000 — The New York New Media Association (NYNMA), a leading organization for new media industry professionals in New York, will moderate a seminar panel entitled “The Way Media Moves: The Internet’s Effect on Advertising”, sponsored by eMotion, the leading provider of digital media management. The event - hosted by Ruder Finn, a leading international public relations agency - will take place at the New York Intercontinental on June 6th. A panel composed of representatives from different industries will discuss the increasing importance of the Internet and its impact on media rich companies, such as advertising. In particular, the panelists will offer their views on the importance of digital media, such as digitized film and still pictures, how digital media is managed and distributed and what the future holds for this industry.

The six-person panel will include representatives from the New York Times, Ad Week and Brand Week, NBC, Young and Rubicam, and eMotion, Inc. Alice Rodd O’Rourke, Executive Director of The New York New Media Association (NYNMA) will moderate the discussion.

“This event will bring together some of the best and brightest in the field of advertising and the Internet,” said Alice Rodd O’Rourke. “We expect a lively discussion and some great insight on the industry. The convergence of media and the Internet has all types of companies from Fortune 500, to advertising agencies and movie studios, exploring new ways of conducting their business day-to-day. This panel will help everyone better understand and take advantage of the technology at this intersection.

The panel will discuss:

  • How the Internet is currently being used in advertising
  • What innovations we can expect to see in the future
  • Who can and should be using this technology
  • Who are the industry leaders
  • Do the panelist agree with analyst reports, such as a recent Frost and Sullivan study (February 2000) that predicts that the market of managing and distributing digital media will reach $2.2 billion by 2003.

Bob Griffin, CEO of eMotion, Inc., a company that provides media management solutions, explained that, "Global industries of all kinds need to be cognizant of the how the Internet affects their production and continued business. Digital media is the most valuable intellectual capital within companies today, and there are unique challenges to protecting that capital.”

The breakfast panel will be held at the Hotel Intercontinental in New York, on June 6th, from 8:30am -10.15am.

Later that same day, NYNMA will also host an evening panel, “Entertainment Online: Are we having fun yet?” Among the discussion items are why online entertainment remains a stepchild to e-commerce, B-2-B auctions, and database marketing online. The panel is composed of Josh Harris, founder of Pseudo, Doug Liman, director of “Go” & “Swingers” and Chairman of Nibblebox as well as Jason McCabe Calacanis, editor and CEO of the Silicon Alley Reporter. Leah Gentry, Editorial Director of New Media for the LA Times, will moderate the panel and Greg Costikyan, game designer & author of “The Future of Online Games”, will address issues that determine whether online entertainment is real and all of its possibilities.
